Yesterday we had the girls first birthday party. Three weeks ago when I first called about air conditioning it was because I knew we’d be having 25 people over for a BBQ. To say it was hot without A/C would be an understatement but I think I’ve gone on enough about the heat.

The girls had a great party. They woke up from their nap just as people were arriving and greeted them in their diapers. They were extremely well behaved for the whole afternoon and we were very proud of them. The highlight was definitely when they got their cake. I was convinced that they would cry but Emma started laughing and Leah was clapping. I have never seen them as cute.

I’m sure quite a few of you have heard me saying I didn’t want to give them lots of sugar until later on in life. I was seriously considering not giving them ice cream cake (John said whatever I thought was fine) but it was so hot and everyone was so excited to see them eat it that I’m pretty sure someone would have snuck upstairs to call child services if I had insisted they have a yogurt. I’m standing firm on french fries though! Anyways, they got the cake and John and I went off to do something after watching them take the first bite…well lick. I could hear laughter coming from the kitchen but I didn’t think anything of it until 10 minutes later I went in to see them COVERED in ice cream. It was cute but disgusting (see pics). Thankfully my mom and John’s mom each grabbed one and gave them a quick bath and I didn’t have to touch them

The rest of the party was good. It was nice to see everyone. With moving and everything we have been so busy that we haven’t had time to go visit so it was nice to have everyone come to us. My parents are going to stay for a few days which will be nice. Tomorrow the girls go for their 1 year checkup with Dr Govan. They’ll get shots so it will be nice to have my mom because I don’t think they’ll get over it as well as past visits - we’ll see.
